A FUN RUN FOR A CAUSE
Reaffirming its commitment to the 7th Cooperative Principle (Concern for the Community), DMPI-ECCC, in partnership with the Local Government of Barangay Bugo has sponsored a worthwhile endeavor – a FUN RUN with a slogan- “Takbo para sa Kalusugan at Kaligtasan”, to heighten awareness on Fitness and Health.
The activity was held last May 1, 2017 which garnered a remarkable participation of over two hundred (200) runners coming from people of all walks of life. The event was divided into two categories, namely, the 3K run (for women) and 5K run (for men). Jump off point was the plaza of Reyes Village Subdivision, with the finish line (for 3K run) and turning point (for the 5K run) at Greenville Subdivision, Bugo Cagayan de Oro City.
As an “energy boosting” activity to the runners, everyone had sweat it out in a “ZUMBA” event that kicked off as early as 5 am. This was followed by a brief program where all the participants were warmly welcomed by former Chairman of the Board Mr. Roger L. Ocaya, as well as by Acting Punong Barangay, Mr. Monico Capirig. Moreover, officers from both DMPI-ECCC and the Bugo Barangay Council had actively facilitated the event, with some officers took the actual challenge head on. As expected, everyone was so happy of the outcome and both the cooperative and the Bugo Barangay council are looking forward to another successful and worthwhile partnership in the future.
Trivia:
Atalanta, the Greek Goddess of Running,
Running makes people happier. Aside from the “runner’s high”—the rush of feel-good hormones known as Endocannabinoids—Runner’s World cited a 2006 study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise which said that a single bout of exercise, like a 30-minute walk on a treadmill, could instantly lift the mood of someone suffering from a major depressive order. It added that “moderate exercise may help people cope with anxiety and stress even after they’re done.” Running is even recommended by mental health experts to help treat clinical depression and other psychological disorders, such as drug and alcohol addiction.
